One of the challenges of being a lawyer is that we often have to work with difficult opposing counsel. The practice of mindfulness teaches us to see the experience for what it is and acknowledge how we feel instead of pushing away our feelings. With acceptance of this moment, we can begin to bring compassion towards ourselves for being in this difficulty – for being in this moment of suffering. With practice, we can reduce the intensity, the uncomfortable feelings (anger, hostility, resentment, frustration, etc) and change the way we respond to the situation.
